I am an assistant professor in the Educational Technology Program at Texas
A&M University where I teach Instructional Design I and II, Computer Graphics
for Learning, and Integrating Technology into the Curriculum. I earned my Master's
degree in Educational Technology and Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at
the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. I have served as a classroom
English teacher and taught English as a second language in the U.S. and Mexico.
My focus in research, teaching, and service is on instructional design of culturally
sensitive, intercultural collaborative learning environments, and visual messages.
I investigate the effects and impact of: (a) visualized instructional messages
for the purposes of cognition, cultural exchange, and negotiation of meaning;
(b) telecommunications partnerships for academic learning, multicultural awareness,
and global understanding; and (c) telecommunications integration in learning
environments. I regularly connect my students with partners beyond our campus
in an attempt to help them broaden their perspectives. For instance, students
in Integrating Technology into the Curriculum collaborate with distant students
as online mentors; in my Instructional Design courses, each student works with
a real world client to develop instruction; and students in the Computer Graphics
course share their multimedia files designed to evoke discussion with students
internationally. My service activities include delivery of numerous in-service
workshops and presentations related to technology integration in learning environments.
